Who can administer an effective Reiki treatment?
Anyone who has passed their Reiki I and Reiki II degree to practitioner level.  A certificate will provide evidence for this.

The importance of this is that the practitioner will have been given, from the Reiki Master Teacher, the necessary attunements to enable the various levels of life force energy to flow through. This is applied by using symbols and mantras to open up the third eye, intuition and the energy centres in order for the practitioner to use their body as a channel for the Universal Life Force Energy.

Can Reiki be harmful?

No.  Although I would not give a treatment to anyone wearing a pacemaker, as the rhythm might change, so I would not chance it!  There are other instances where treatment would not be advisable.  Your practitioner will advise you.

When should Reiki not be applied?

If you find someone experiencing a heart attack immediately call 999.  You may hold the hand of the patient, but not apply hands on healing.

To a patient suffering acute appendicitis (until a doctor confirms it is ok)

Anyone suffering from Diabetes Mellitus (anyone using insulin injections should not be treated unless they check their insulin need everyday, Reiki may alter this amount)

Anyone who has been given anaesthetics for an operation (Reiki will support the body to consume the drugs more quickly)

Anyone who is under the influence of recreational drugs or alcohol.
